Not sure how to word this (are we safe here?) but just wondering.

I have always thought of GF as the polar opposite to compassionate sensitive parenting. I read something yesterday that suggested that the anti GF brigade have basically got it wrong and *actually* her books do not condone the practices that people on the AP side of the fence abhor but rather that she has been turned into a Hate figure.

Now I confess that I have never read TCLBB, although I remember flicking through it in a bookshop once and seeing some 'dubious' info on bf. How scientific is the evidence against GF's stuff? Maybe I should read it...

Please delete this if it's a problem, don't want to get anyone into trouble.
I think it depends specifically what they think AP people abhor! Leaving babies to fall asleep in pitch-dark rooms (she recommends black-out blinds and pelmets to make sure there's *no* light in the daytime) by themselves is pretty abhorrent to me...
Well quite. And I assume that's from a very young age. Don't get me wrong, I don't for a second think GF would be right for us (or indeed is 'right' full stop), I was just intrigued reading this stuff the other day (and you probably know where I read it!) and wondered whether a lot of the anti Gina stuff is based more on an idea of what she represents rather than the specific info in her books, iykwim. Off to have a google...
I know of one or two places you might have read something along those lines, there was a discussion on an email list I'm on recently, one of the participants has a blog, could be anywhere Wink

Yup that's the one.
nuff said, lol
Ermm how long is a piece of string. We did an interesting afternoon on a breastfeeding study day I went on, Ford v Sears. I never quite realised just how bad some of the breastfeeding advice was, and how manipultive Gina is in her wording. Makes good fire wood.

Oh I need to find a rofl smiley...
It was the bf 'advice' that I saw when I flicked through. I'm sure it was along the lines of bf babies should only feed 3 hourly or something. I remember getting all steamed in the book shop and dh asked me what I was doing hiding it behind Sears! A friend of mine told me that someone she knew was going to lend her TCLBB when she was pregnant so I promptly bought her Sears and Womanly Art. Didn't do any good unfortunately, she didn't read any books at all but ended up scheduled feeding anyway because her mum told her demand feeding was stupid. Needless to say she gave her baby solids at 13 weeks cos he was crying all the time and he was on formula not long after... Made me sooo sad.
