For a long weekend, all very last minute and rushed, but had a great time - loads of walking, watched the legging through the tunnel from Diggle to Marsden and eating out (my mum has an obsession with tea shops!) Only saw 2 framed carriers (no nice slings) and got a couple of comments on how great the Kindercoat was.

Mum's also had us looking at houses trying to convince us to move up.  So any persuasive arguements for moving up north lol - this probably won't be too hard as it's not great where we are and we have no ties here.  My main worries are what's the HE community like up there, LEA's etc, and of course good homeopath, yoga/pilates teachers.  DH's is that he would probably have to transfer to Huddersfield for work (really busy, probably quite like here).
Don't know about yoga/pilates but my homeopath is from the Colne Valley (Golcar I think, she comes to us though) and there's a fab non-martial Tai Chi class in Marsden on Tuesday mornings, plus there's my fab chiropractor with her new clinic (with medical herbalist and other stuff, chiropractor does bush flower remedies and Bowen therapy too...) up towards the train station, which has regular (stopping) trains to Manchester and Huddersfield and beyond in both directions.  One of my home-ed friends lives there too, and there's a decent network up here.  And you'd be 15-20 minutes drive from me!

*grin*
edited to add the LEA's not bad as LEAs go Wink
Thanks, I've been looking into it and I'm very tempted, just depends if DH can get a transfer I guess and selling our house.  I must admit it will be nice to have some fellow crunchy persons nearby Smile2 of course not forgetting actually having family near, which I think would seem a little strange as we've not lived close for 14 years now.

Think I saw your chiropracters, was having a nose in the window thinking how great it sounded.

Even more appealling as we've just had first contact with the LEA and it's very threatening (new little Hitler in job who seems clueless about HE) sending threatening letters to loads of us, the thought of moving somewhere we won't be known by LEA is pulling.
grr at the LEA bod... The only thing with Marsden is that I find it an odd mix of think-outside-the-box and Royston Vasey. And it's relatively easy to get snowed in up there. But otherwise it seems like a nice enough place Smile2
lol DH always thinks Royston Vasey when we go up there too!

It doesn't have to be Marsden, that's just where mum and dad are.  I've been browsing properties on the internet and Meltham is cheaper - more for our money lol! What's that like?  I don't do big towns - will keep searching the general area.  It's so difficult when you're not actually from the area, places look nice when you drive through but I guess if you don't live there you never really know what they're like.
I'll drag Kirsty on to talk about Meltham...  dh doesn't like it but he's a snob, and he's not keen on Marsden either Rolleyes
Meltham is lovely I live here Smile2

Joking aside it's as nice as Honley but cheaper, and different to Marsden beacause it is so damn pretty! I like Marsden! We have all you could need, and I'm happy here. We moved up from London 2 years ago and I'm really settled.

Next time you pay a flying visit come and visit!

Couple of home hunting tips for Meltham-

1 side good - one side bad!

If you have a map then draw a line through the centre and avoid most of the stuff on the Marsden side (specifically Broadlands).

If you want a hamlet then Helme is GORGEOUS and Wilshaw lovely too, but probably more expensive than Marsden.

Fiona and I did the Marsden- Slaithwaite walk last week too with an ergo (Finley), MT (Rebecca) and buggy (well Jack was asleep for much of it). Would have made your day to have bumped into us wouldn't it Grin

K xx
Thanks for the info Kirsty, will keep searching and thinking.

It would've been great to have bumped into you lol! Even my mum has started sling spotting now Big Grin
