Hi, My name is Dani and I am new to this board. I have 6 month old Maddy. I often carry her about and tried the baby Bjorn when she was very little but we didn't get on with it at all. I am now looking to buy a sling for her and am leaning towards a ring sling. Maddy is a big, strong 6 month old who loves to look around and be in the middle of everything, so I need a sling that is supportive but not restrictive, hence fancying a ring sling as it does not seem to restrict the babies very much.

Which would you recommend and where from?

Thanks,

Dani & Maddy
Hi Dani Smile2 I have to admit I don't have much experience with ring slings, though I have used pouches and short wraps tied in a similar way to ring-slings. I think the shoulder style is pretty important with ring slings, it can take a little bit of time to find the one that suits you. Padded ones can be very supportive but also difficult to adjust, particularly if the sling is a little bigger than necessary for the user, as the padding doesn't run through the rings. Unpadded ones are easy to adjust but then the shoulder style is more critical. The Ellaroo Lightly Padded, which I think www.littlepossums.co.uk stock, gets good reviews, as does the 7-pleat shoulder, used on AngelTails at www.bitsforbairns.co.uk

Whereabouts are you? Maybe there's a slingmeet www.slingmeet.co.uk near you where you could play around with some different kinds and see what works?
Thanks for those sites. They both look lovely. I think I am just going to go for an Ellaroo lightly padded magic garden design. The 7 pleat ones are beautiful but I'm not sure what to use the extra long bit for. I reckon that as a first time user and for everyday use the elaroo looks perfect!

Thanks for your help. I am in North London, so I will have a look at the sling meet website.

Dani
Oh there seem to be loads of slingmeet-ers in London! Good luck Smile2
