I bought one of these hammocks when I was pregnant with my fourth baby, and started using it while he was still tiny. I think it is *fantastic*
The shape of the hammock is the closest my son can feel to being cradled in arms when I can't hold him myself. I find that babies simply do not like to sleep or lie on a flat surface after all those months inside mamma curled up, so this is wonderful to fit the curve of their spine. I found it to be to be very cool on hot summer days and we've used a sheepskin liner inside for cooler winter days. We've used it from newborn and now that my son is 11 months old it is still getting very regular use for some nap times, and every evening when he sleeps before I take him up to bed.
The ability to rock the hammock has really come in to it's own now that he is bigger and can sleep for longer periods. If he starts to wake, or is not fully asleep when I lay him in the hammock, the gentle sway is enough to reassure him. Since he became mobile I have found that the straps are enough to keep him secure if I worry that he will wake when I am not near him, but to be honest I'm in the room most of the time anyway so still often do not need to clip him in.
Having a dog and three older children in the house, I could have been worried that they would rock the baby too hard or knock the hammock over, but the makers have thought of this and we have been able to secure it so that it rocks without flipping over.
All in all, I wish I had one of these for my other children - a moses basket and stand will cost as much, if not more, yet will last a fraction of the time and are not nearly so comfortable!Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!]
